"Request information" shows up only for schools CAAHEP or ABHES accredits; it sends your request there, and we may get paid. The remaining entries direct you to each school's official site. No school pays money to appear here or to move higher. We used IPEDS 2023-24 for costs and graduates, plus directories from CAAHEP and ABHES.
Understanding this list: accreditation, costs and graduate counts
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. After finishing, people may take the CMA exam and become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES gives approval to the entire school. Don't plan on the CMA exam until you ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered as well.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- The school is not listed by either group for medical assisting; this is not a verdict on the school. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. For the CMA exam, you need a CAAHEP or ABHES program. Other routes, such as work experience, also qualify you for the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams.
- Classes you take online
- You do coursework online but must complete clinical hours in person at a clinic or school.
- Price
- Each school reports its 2023-24 tuition and fees, adding books and supplies when it lists them, either for the whole program or for a single year of full-time classes (at public colleges, the rate local students pay). Whatever awards the school lists, the yearly price stays the same.
- Graduates
- These figures cover students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. IPEDS, an annual U.S. Department of Education survey, provides these price and graduate numbers.
