You see "Request information" only where CAAHEP or ABHES accredits the school; it sends your request to that school, and we may get paid. Links in other rows go to the school's own site. No school pays us to appear here or to move higher in the list. The sources are IPEDS 2023-24 for costs and graduates, plus the CAAHEP and ABHES directories.
Accreditation, prices and graduates: here is how to read the list
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- CAAHEP checked and then approved the specific medical assisting program. Once you finish it, you can take the CMA exam, which is how you become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES grants approval to the entire school. Do not count on the CMA exam until you ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered too.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- The school does not appear on either list for medical assisting, but that is not a judgment against it. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. The CMA exam requires a CAAHEP or ABHES program, while the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams also allow other routes like work experience.
- Price
- These are 2023-24 tuition and fees as each school reports them, with books and supplies where a school lists them. A figure is for the whole program, or for a year of full-time classes (the local-student rate at public colleges). Where a price is per year, every award the school lists costs that same yearly amount.
- Graduates
- This counts students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. We get price and graduate numbers from IPEDS, an annual survey that the U.S. Department of Education runs.
