"Request information" appears only where CAAHEP or ABHES accredits the school; your request goes to that school, and we may be paid. Links in other rows go to the school's own site. No school pays us to include them or move them higher. Data comes from IPEDS 2023-24 for prices and graduates, plus directories from CAAHEP and ABHES.
Understanding this list: accreditation, prices and graduate numbers
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- CAAHEP has reviewed and approved the medical assisting program itself. Those who complete it can take the CMA exam, which leads to becoming a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES gives approval to the entire school. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is included before you rely on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- The school is missing from both groups' medical assisting lists; this is not a judgment on the school. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. You need a CAAHEP or ABHES program for the CMA exam; the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams also allow other paths like work experience.
- Classes held online
- Classes happen online, yet clinical hours always occur in person at a clinic or school.
- Price
- Each school reports its own 2023-24 tuition and fees, plus books and supplies if it lists them: either the whole program cost or a year of full-time classes (public-college rate for local students). Each award the school lists shares the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- These students completed their programs between July 2023 and June 2024. The U.S. Department of Education runs IPEDS, a yearly survey that provides these prices and graduate counts.
