Accreditation, prices and graduates: how to read this list
CAAHEP-accredited program
The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. Finish it, and you can take the CMA exam. It lets you become a Certified Medical Assistant.
ABHES-accredited school
The whole school is approved by ABHES. Before relying on the CMA exam, ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered too.
Not CAAHEP or ABHES
For medical assisting, neither group lists the school, and that isn't a verdict on the school. Another agency may still accredit the college itself. To qualify for the CMA exam, you need a CAAHEP or ABHES program. Other routes, including work experience, are also accepted for the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams.
Price
Each school reports tuition and fees for 2023-24, plus books and supplies if listed. Figures cover the whole program or one year of full-time classes (the local student rate at public colleges). For every award the school lists, the yearly price stays the same.
Graduates
Students who finished from July 2023 through June 2024 are included. IPEDS provides the price and graduate figures. The Department of Education in the U.S. runs this survey each year.
