Washington requires a Department of Health credential to work as a medical assistant. For Medical Assistant-Certified you need an approved program (a CAAHEP or ABHES program, a state apprenticeship, or 720 clock hours of training that include a 160-hour externship) and must pass a recognized national exam in the last 5 years. The Medical Assistant-Registered credential asks for no formal training, but it only covers work for one employer. How certification works in Washington · Washington beside five other states
