Do medical assistants in Indiana need a license?

No. Indiana law does not mention medical assistants or ask for state certification. Instead, an exception within the state's Medical Practice Act covers people employed by a physician.

The law sets 2 limits. Medication may be given only when the physician you work for gives a specific order, and diagnosing or prescribing is off limits.

Because the state sets no rule of its own, each employer decides what training and national certification it wants. An accredited program puts you in a strong spot either way.
