A guide to reading the list's accreditation, prices and graduates
CAAHEP-accredited program
The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. After completing the program, you can take the CMA exam to earn the Certified Medical Assistant credential.
ABHES-accredited school
ABHES approves the entire school. Before you rely on the CMA exam, check with the school to see whether its medical assisting program is covered as well.
Not CAAHEP or ABHES
For medical assisting, neither group includes the school in its listings, and that isn't a verdict on the school. Another agency can still accredit the college itself. To take the CMA exam, you need a CAAHEP or ABHES program. Other routes, including work experience, are accepted for the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams.
Price
For 2023-24, each school reports its tuition and fees, plus books and supplies when listed. These figures cover the whole program or a year of full-time classes, at the public college rate for local students. Each award listed by a school has the same yearly price.
Graduates
The students counted finished between July 2023 and June 2024. Price and graduate data come from the U.S. Department of Education's yearly IPEDS survey.
