Accreditation, prices and graduates: how to read this list
CAAHEP-accredited program
CAAHEP has completed its check and given approval to the medical assisting program itself. Those who finish it may take the CMA exam and become a Certified Medical Assistant.
ABHES-accredited school
ABHES grants approval to the entire school. Don't count on the CMA exam yet; first ask the school if the medical assisting program it offers is covered too.
Not CAAHEP or ABHES
Neither group includes the school for medical assisting; this does not judge the school. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. A CAAHEP or ABHES program is required for the CMA exam; the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams also allow other routes like work experience.
Classes held online
You complete coursework online, while clinical hours always occur in person at either a clinic or the school.
Price
Prices cover tuition and fees for 2023-24 plus books and supplies if the school lists them, reported as the whole program cost or one year of full-time study (the local student rate at public colleges). The yearly price stays the same for each award that the school lists.
Graduates
These are students who completed their program between July 2023 and June 2024. Cost and graduate numbers come from IPEDS, an annual survey that the U.S. Department of Education runs.
