A guide to reading the list's accreditation, prices and graduate information
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- CAAHEP has reviewed and approved the medical assisting program itself. Once you finish it, you can take the CMA exam to qualify as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- The whole school is approved by ABHES. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered too, before you count on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- Medical assisting programs at the school aren't listed by either group, which isn't a verdict on the school. Another agency may still accredit the college itself. The CMA exam requires a CAAHEP or ABHES program, while the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams accept other routes, including work experience.
- Price
- Each school reports its 2023-24 tuition and fees, including books and supplies when it lists them. The figure covers either the whole program or a full-time year of classes, at the local-student rate for public colleges. Each award listed by the school has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- The count covers students who finished from July 2023 to June 2024. Each year, the Department of Education in the U.S. runs a survey called IPEDS. It supplies the price and graduate figures.
