Only schools accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES show "Request information", which sends your request to them; we may be paid for it. The other rows take you straight to the school website. No school pays us to appear here or to move higher on the list. We used IPEDS 2023-24 for graduates and prices, plus directories from CAAHEP and ABHES.
Understanding this list: graduates, prices and accreditation
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- CAAHEP has reviewed and given approval to the medical assisting program itself. You can take the CMA exam after finishing to become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES grants approval to the entire school. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered as well before you count on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- Neither group lists this school for medical assisting, which is not a judgment on the school. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. A CAAHEP or ABHES program is required for the CMA exam, yet the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams also allow routes such as work experience.
- Price
- For 2023-24, each school reports tuition and fees plus books and supplies when available: for the whole program, or one year of full-time classes (the local student rate at public colleges). Each award the school lists carries the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- These numbers reflect students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. We get price and graduate data from IPEDS, an annual survey that the U.S. Department of Education runs.
