"Request information" shows up only on schools CAAHEP or ABHES accredits; it sends your request to that school, and we may be paid. The other rows go to the school website. No school pays to get listed or to move up. Prices and graduates come from IPEDS 2023-24; we also checked the listings at CAAHEP and ABHES.
Reading this list: graduates, prices and accreditation
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself was checked and approved by CAAHEP. You can take the CMA exam after finishing to become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES grants approval to the entire school. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered too before you count on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- The school isn't listed by either group for medical assisting, yet this isn't a judgment on the school. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. A CAAHEP or ABHES program is required for the CMA exam, while the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams also take other paths like work experience.
- Classes held online
- While classes are online, you must do clinical hours in person at the school or a clinic.
- Price
- Each school's own numbers for 2023-24: tuition and fees, plus books and supplies when listed. The cost covers the whole program or else a year of full-time classes; public colleges use the local-student rate. Each award listed by the school has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- These are students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. Each year the U.S. Department of Education collects these cost and graduate numbers in its IPEDS survey.
