Accreditation, prices and graduates: how to read this list
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- CAAHEP has checked the medical assisting program itself and approved it. Once you finish it, you can take the CMA exam, which is how you become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- The whole school gets approved by ABHES. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered as well before you rely on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- Neither group lists this school for medical assisting, and that is no judgment of the school. A different agency might still accredit the college itself. For the CMA exam, you need a CAAHEP or ABHES program. Other routes, such as work experience, also qualify you for the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams.
- Classes held online
- You do the coursework online, but the clinical hours always happen in person, at a clinic or at the school.
- Price
- Schools report tuition and fees for 2023-24 plus books and supplies if shown, covering the whole program or one year of full-time classes at the local student rate for public colleges. Every award a school lists shares the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- These figures count students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. Cost and graduate numbers come from IPEDS, an annual survey that the U.S. Department of Education runs.
