We may receive payment when "Request information" sends your details to a school CAAHEP or ABHES accredits; only those schools show it. The rest of the rows take you to the website run by the school. No school pays us to appear here or to move higher on the list. We use IPEDS 2023-24 for graduate and price data, plus directories from CAAHEP and ABHES.

Costs, graduates and accreditation: making sense of this list
CAAHEP-accredited program
CAAHEP reviewed and approved the actual medical assisting program. Once you finish it, you can take the CMA exam, which is how you become a Certified Medical Assistant.
ABHES-accredited school
ABHES gives approval to the entire school. Before relying on the CMA exam, ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered as well.
Not CAAHEP or ABHES
Neither group lists this school for medical assisting, and that is no judgment of the school. Another agency might still accredit the college itself. You need a CAAHEP or ABHES program for the CMA exam, while the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams allow other paths like work experience.
Classes held online
You complete coursework online, while clinical hours always occur face to face at a clinic or school.
Price
Reported by each school for 2023-24, these costs cover tuition and fees plus books and supplies if listed: either the whole program or one year of full-time classes (local student rate at public colleges). Where a price is per year, every award the school lists costs that same yearly amount.
Graduates
These are students who completed their program between July 2023 and June 2024. IPEDS, an annual survey from the U.S. Department of Education, provided the price and graduate data.
