Only schools accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES display "Request information", and your request goes to that school. We might receive payment for this. Each remaining row links to that school's own website. No school pays for a listing or a move up. For prices and graduates, we use IPEDS 2023-24. We also check the CAAHEP and ABHES directories.
How to understand accreditation, prices and graduates in this list
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. After you finish the program, you can take the CMA exam and become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES accredits the school as a whole. Ask the school whether its program for medical assisting is covered too, before you count on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- For medical assisting, the school isn't listed by either group, and this isn't a verdict on the school. Another agency may still accredit the college itself. The CMA exam requires a program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES. Exams for RMA, CCMA and NCMA accept other routes too, such as work experience.
- Price
- Each school reports its tuition and fees for 2023-24, including books and supplies when it lists them. The figures cover either the whole program or one year of full-time classes (the local student rate at public colleges). Each award listed by the school has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- The count includes students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. The U.S. Department of Education runs IPEDS, a yearly survey that supplies the prices and graduate counts.
