We may be paid when "Request information" sends your request to a school that CAAHEP or ABHES accredits. It appears only on those schools. Every other row links to its school's website. No school pays to receive a listing or move higher. Data comes from the IPEDS 2023-24 figures for prices and graduates, plus the CAAHEP and ABHES directories.
How to understand accreditation, prices and graduates in this list
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. Finishing it lets people take the CMA exam, which they can use to become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES gives approval to the school as a whole. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered as well before you rely on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- Neither group includes the school in its medical assisting listings, and that isn't a judgment on the school. Another agency may still accredit the college itself. You need either a CAAHEP or ABHES program for the CMA exam. Exams for RMA, CCMA and NCMA also accept other paths, including work experience.
- Price
- For 2023-24, schools report tuition and fees for either the whole program or one year of full-time classes. At public colleges, the yearly rate applies to local students. Books and supplies are included when the school lists them. Each award listed by the school has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- This includes students who completed their programs between July 2023 and June 2024. The prices and graduate counts come from IPEDS, the yearly survey run by the U.S. Department of Education.
