"Request information" is available only when CAAHEP or ABHES accredits the school, and your request goes there; we may be paid for it. The other rows send you to a school's own site. No school pays for a listing or for a move up. Our data comes from IPEDS 2023-24 for prices and graduates, and from the CAAHEP directory and the ABHES directory.
How to read this list: what accreditation, prices and graduates mean
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. After you finish the program, you can take the CMA exam and become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES accredits the school as a whole. Before you rely on the CMA exam, check with the school to see whether its medical assisting program is covered as well.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- For medical assisting, neither group includes the school on its list. This doesn't judge the school. Another agency may still accredit the college. For the CMA exam, you need a program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES. Other routes, including work experience, are accepted for exams called RMA, CCMA and NCMA.
- Price
- Each school reports its 2023-24 tuition and fees, including books and supplies when listed, for the whole program or one year of full-time classes (the local student rate at public colleges). Each award listed by the school has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- These are students who finished from July 2023 through June 2024. IPEDS, a yearly survey run by the U.S. Department of Education, provides the price and graduate figures.
