This list explained: accreditation, prices and graduates
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. If you finish the program, you can take the CMA exam and become a Certified Medical Assistant.
- ABHES-accredited school
- ABHES gives approval to the entire school. Don't plan on the CMA exam until you've asked the school whether its program in medical assisting is covered as well.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- The school is not listed by either group for medical assisting; that is not a judgment on the school. Another agency can still accredit the college itself. A CAAHEP or ABHES program is required for the CMA exam, yet the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams also take other paths like work experience.
- Classes held online
- You do the coursework online, but the clinical hours always happen in person, at a clinic or at the school.
- Price
- The figures schools report for 2023-24 cover tuition and fees, plus books and supplies whenever a school lists them: they may span the whole program, or just one year of full-time classes (what local students pay at public colleges). Each award the school lists has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- These are students who completed their studies between July 2023 and June 2024. The U.S. Department of Education runs a yearly survey called IPEDS that provides price and graduate numbers.
