Accreditation, prices and graduates: how to read this list
- CAAHEP-accredited program
- The medical assisting program itself has been checked and approved by CAAHEP. People who finish the program can take the CMA exam to earn Certified Medical Assistant status.
- ABHES-accredited school
- The entire school is approved by ABHES. Ask the school if its medical assisting program is covered as well before you count on the CMA exam.
- Not CAAHEP or ABHES
- The school isn't listed by either group for medical assisting, which isn't a judgment on the school. Another agency may still accredit the college itself. For the CMA exam, you need a program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES. Other routes to the RMA, CCMA and NCMA exams include work experience.
- Price
- As each school reports them, tuition and fees for 2023-24 include books and supplies when listed. The figures cover the whole program or one year of full-time classes. For public colleges, this is the rate local students pay. Each award the school lists has the same yearly price.
- Graduates
- The count covers everyone who finished from July 2023 through June 2024. Both prices and graduate counts come from IPEDS, which the U.S. Department of Education runs as a yearly survey.
